Planning a Safe Ride Home from the Taproom

A designated driver plan works best when it is settled before the first pint is poured. Agree on who is driving while you are still at home, and make sure that person is genuinely comfortable staying alcohol-free for the whole visit. That includes the "just a taste" sample flight, which can be easy to forget about. If your group is larger, consider rotating the role on future visits so the same friend is not always the one keeping the keys.

British Columbia has some of the strictest impaired driving rules in Canada. Roadside penalties can apply at blood alcohol levels below the federal criminal limit, and new drivers in the Graduated Licensing Program must have zero alcohol in their system. In practice, the safest rule for any driver is simple: if you are driving, do not drink. Coffee, food or waiting a short while will not reliably sober anyone up. Only time does that.

Other ways to get home

Aldergrove is a semi-rural Fraser Valley community, so transport options are more limited than in central Vancouver. It pays to plan ahead:

  • Book a taxi or ride-hailing service early, especially on busy event nights, when wait times can be longer.
  • Check transit schedules before you set out, as evening service in the area may be less frequent.
  • Arrange a pickup with a friend or family member who is not joining you.
  • Stay nearby if you are travelling from further afield for a special occasion.

Making the evening enjoyable for drivers

Being the driver should not mean sitting on the sidelines. Non-alcoholic options have improved a lot in recent years, and a good meal from one of our food-truck partners makes the night feel like a treat rather than a sacrifice. Many of our taproom events, from trivia to live music, are just as much fun without a drink in hand.

If a guest in your group has had more than they should and insists on driving, step in calmly and offer an alternative. Our staff are always happy to help you call a ride or find a quiet spot to wait. Planning a visit? Take a look at the taproom page to get a feel for the space before you arrive.
