Planning a Family Visit: Practical Tips for Parents

A relaxed afternoon at a brewery with children in tow usually comes down to a little planning. These suggestions build on the guidelines above and are meant to help your group, and the guests around you, enjoy the visit.

Check before you come

Family-friendly hours can shift around private bookings, special releases and busy event nights, so look at the events calendar before heading out. If you are unsure whether a particular evening suits younger guests, it is worth getting in touch through the contact page rather than guessing. Weekend afternoons tend to be livelier than weekday early evenings, so pick the atmosphere that fits your children.

What to bring

  • Quiet entertainment: colouring books, small card games or a favourite book keep little ones settled at the table without spreading across neighbouring seats.
  • Snacks and drinks for toddlers: food truck menus vary from day to day, so a backup snack is useful for picky or very young eaters.
  • Layers: Fraser Valley weather changes quickly, and outdoor seating near the food trucks can feel cool once the sun drops.

Keeping everyone safe

A working brewery has kegs, hoses, cleaning equipment and staff moving with full trays. Please keep children away from the bar, service areas and any back-of-house doors, and walk rather than run between the taproom and the food truck area. Strollers are easiest to manage when parked beside your table instead of in walkways.

It also helps to remember that only adults of legal drinking age in British Columbia can be served alcohol, and staff may ask for identification. Tasting flights and pints should stay with the adults at the table, even for a quick sip.

Getting home

If you are drinking, sort out transport before you arrive: choose a designated driver, arrange a ride or plan a taxi. Aldergrove is a semi-rural community, so options can be thinner late in the day than in larger cities. With car seats, transport and timing settled in advance, a family visit to the taproom can be an easy, enjoyable part of a weekend in the Fraser Valley.
