Rene Vaca's stand-up night at the Dignity Health Theater has come and gone. The downtown Bakersfield theater has a full season lined up, and it covers just about every kind of audience.
Families get the first big show. Bluey's Big Play, the stage version of the hit Australian cartoon, arrives on October 27. As BakersfieldNow reported when the date was announced in March. Christian music star Anne Wilson follows on November 12. Gospel legend CeCe Winans brings a holiday-season concert on December 16.
Theater fans have the Broadway in Bakersfield series, which the theater runs with Nederlander National Markets. KGET covered the series' return earlier this year. Waitress, the musical with songs by Sara Bareilles, plays on November 16. A Beautiful Noise, the Neil Diamond musical, closes things out on May 30.
The theater is part of the city-owned Dignity Health Arena, Theater and Convention Center on Truxtun Avenue, the complex many locals still remember as the Mechanics Bank Arena and Theater. It hosts touring Broadway shows, concerts and comedy throughout the year.
Parking is in the lots and garages around the complex, and downtown's restaurants on Chester Avenue and 19th Street are close by for dinner before the show.
